Privacy policy

The short version

We collect as little as possible. The gift quiz works without an account, a name or an email address. We ask for your email only when you request something that needs one: your list by email, a reminder, or the newsletter. We never sell personal data, and we never use your quiz answers to train AI models.

What we collect and why

Quiz answers (who the gift is for, interests, budget, things to avoid): used solely to generate recommendations. Answers describe your gift recipient in general terms; please don't include names or sensitive details in free-text boxes, as we only need hobbies and preferences.

Email address: only when you request your list, set a reminder, or join the newsletter. Transactional emails (your list, your reminders) and marketing emails (the newsletter) use separate consent; asking for your list never signs you up to marketing.

Click data: when you click out to a retailer we log the product and the page it was on, anonymously, so we know which recommendations are useful. We do not build individual behavioural profiles.

Analytics events: counts of quiz starts, completions and similar, without personal identifiers.

Legal bases

Recommendations and transactional email: performance of the service you asked for. Newsletter: consent, withdrawable any time via the unsubscribe link. Aggregated analytics: legitimate interest in improving the product.

Retention

Recommendation runs and shared lists are kept so your links keep working, and are pruned on a rolling basis. Reminder data is kept until the reminder is sent or you ask us to delete it. We do not retain quiz data indefinitely without a reason.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and object to or restrict processing. Email hello@giftbestie.com and we will action it. You can also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).

Third parties

Retailer links take you to the retailer's site, where their privacy policy applies. Our email provider processes addresses solely to deliver our emails. We use no third-party advertising trackers.
